History of St. Catherine's Living Center ---"Serving Seniors since 1958"

1958 - The Wahpeton Rehabilitation Center, a 50-bed facility, was sponsored by doctors of the Wahpeton Clinic.

1968 - The Wahpeton Retirement Center, a 34-bed facility, was built by Donald and Margaret Nash.

1973 - The Wahpeton Rehabilitation Center was completed.

1976 - The Wahpeton Rehabilitation Center was sold to Roderick Enterprises, Portland, OR.

1982 - Both facilities were sold to Beverly Enterprises, Pasadena, California. This was the first time both facilites were managed as one and were now called the Wahpeton Health Care Center.

1989 - Wahpeton Health Care Center comes under the sponsorship of Benedictine Health System.

1996 - Wahpeton Health Care Home Care begins serving the community.

1997 - Wahpeton Health Care Home Care changed its name to St. Catherine's Living Center Home Care to more closely identify its sponsorship by the Sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery in Duluth, Minnesota.

1998 - The "Taking Care of Our Own" vision becomes a reality with the creation of the Hospice Suites and Special Care Unit.

Spring 1999 - St. Catherine's Lving Center Home Care incorporated St. Rose Home Care of Lamoure, ND and Prince of Peace Home Care of Ellendale, ND as branch offices serving Lamoure and Dickey counties with Home Care.

Fall 1999 - St. Catherine's Living Center opened it's Special Care Unit for 14 residents in a secured area serving residents with Alzheimers and dementias. St. Catherine's also opened its Hospice Suite for residents and families who are facing "end of life".

2000 - St. Catherine's Living Center received the "Best Practice Award" in ND sponsored by the ND Department of Health and the ND Long Term Care Association.

2001 - St. Catherine's began its "upgrade" project making the facility more home-like. New wall coverings, carpet, nurses stations, and activity areas provide for more dignity, confidentiality and warmth.

2002 In-house therapy services are provided including Speech, Occupational and Physical Therpay. Out-patient Therapy is also offered.
