The Madonna Living Community Foundation is a separate 501(c)(3) organization from Madonna Towers of Rochester. The Foundation is an associated foundation of the Benedictine Foundation sponsored by the Benedictine Sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery, Duluth, Minnesota. The Madonna Living Community Foundation was established on September 15, 1995 to ensure the continuation of high quality, compassionate care and services to residents at Madonna Towers of Rochester, a Catholic based Continuous Care Retirement Community.
The Foundation is organized:
- To gather, receive, and administer charitable gifts on behalf of Madonna Towers and Madonna Meadows of Rochester.
- To encourage estate plan commitments in support of Madonna Towers and Madonna Meadows of Rochester.
- To enhance fundraising efforts and encourage philanthropic support for its primary beneficiaries - Madonna Towers and Madonna Meadows of Rochester.
Your donations to the Madonna Living Community Foundation supports our ministry of:
- The Benedictine Care Program - supporting residents financially when they run short of funds.
- Special building projects.
- Equipment not covered by the budget.
- New program support.
The foundation assumes that all donors wish to be appropriately recognized for their gifts unless s/he specifies otherwise; i.e., an anonymous donation. Recognition includes, but is not limited to:
- Appropriate inscriptions on donor recognition plaques and/or The Living Heritage Tree.
- Listing of donors' names in appropriate publications and/or reports, such as the Annual Report.
- Naming opportunities throughout the Madonna Living Community campus.

Recent Projects supported by the foundation include:
- The Benedictine Care Program - $33,000 per year in resident assistance.
- Vans for resident and employee transportation.
- Furnishings in nursing care.
- Therapy equipment.
- Micro Logic computerized patient call system.
- WhisperGlide Heritage Series wheelchair accessible swing.
- 12 x 15 Dance Floor.
- Recovering the kneelers in the St. Benedict Chapel.
- Employee educational scholarship program.
- Estate Planning Seminars for residents and families.
- Employee Smoking Cessation Program.
- Nursing Care Expansion and Private Room Renovation at Madonna Towers - $3.2 million project.
- Chapel/multipurpose room at Madonna Meadows - $500,000 project.
- Chapel in Skilled Nursing Care
- Patio Furniture and Outside Benches
- Raised Gardens and Landscaping
- Blanket Warmers
- TVs for family room and resident rooms
- Piano in Skilled Nursing Chapel and Grand Piano in the Towers' Lobby
- Continuing education scholarships for employees

Gifts accepted by the foundation include cash, checks, appreciated stock, money orders, contents of saving accounts, bequests. The foundation can also be the beneficiary of a trust or an estate. Other gifts may include securities, real estate, tangible personal property, gifts-in-kind, royalties, copyrights and trademarks, and insurance policies. Gifts to the foundation can be classified as unrestricted or restricted. An unrestricted gift is one that has no donor stipulation regarding its purpose or use. In this case the gift will be used to its best advantage, as the Foundation Board deems appropriate. A restricted gift is one that is designated by the donor for a specific purpose. Restrictions can be temporary or permanent.
