Despite all the medical advances in diagnosis and treatment, a cure is not always possible. Continued treatment, even if available, may compromise a resident’s quality of life. It may then be appropriate to consider Hospice or Palliative (comfort) care. When Hospice services are desired, our nursing staff will contact the attending physician for orders. Once the doctor orders are obtained, the specific Hospice provider will be contacted. Our local providers include both St. Mary’s Hospice and St. Luke’s Hospice teams. St. Eligius Health Center’s care staff will continue to meet the direct care needs of our Hospice residents. While the St. Mary’s or St. Luke’s Hospice team provides additional support to the resident and their family members. St. Eligius Health Center’s staff members involved with our Hospice resident include: 24 hour licensed nursing staff on duty, our licensed social workers, the St. Eligius Chaplain, the dietary department, activity department (as desired), our financial department, volunteers and support from the management team at St. Eligius Health Center. Our goal is to provide dignity and comfort to all who enter our facility.
